Vincent Place Incorporated

Hello!

I was invited by Mike to become a contributer and it was suggested by Abby that I post the following here for all to see:

The main goal of Vincent Place is to give homeless men a chance to get back on their feet. Open 24/7/365, residents are provided with three home-cooked meals a day, dorm-based rooms, laundry facilities and other basic life-needs. On staff is a Transitional Case Manager who assists with finding affordable and safe housing. Vincent Place acts as a liaison between residents and other agencies such as counseling, mental health, substance abuse agencies and many more. Located in the heart of downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Vincent Place offers referrals to many agencies which can aid them in the process of getting back on their feet.

The First Steps to Employment Program offers residents pre-employment assistance. The program is dedicated to supporting the efforts of the men toward self-sufficiency and self-reliance in a socially acceptable way. It addresses these barriers, as well as employment and attempts to overcome them by providing many different types of support. Some common issues that are addressed are education, resume writing, computer skills, heath problems, substance abuse, mental wellness, communication skills and other basic needs to help get them started. During their stay and for three months beyond, they receive support

Working alongside the shelter are the Soup Kitchen, Food Bank (Both located at 222 Albert Street East) and Thrift Store (Located at 322 Cathcart Street). These components of Vincent Place work together to help those in need. All food donated to Vincent Place goes to the Food Bank to support the nourishment needs of our community. Also available is the Soup Kitchen, which offers meals to the public on Wednesdays at 5:00PM and Saturdays at 11:30 AM (Located at 222 Albert Street East). Donations to the Thrift Store are used to support our many components.

I look forward to posting more articles for your enjoyment. And if yo uhave any questions or comments about Vincent Place, please feel free to email me at mk_prvincentplace@shaw.ca
